Ultrasound

I just finished an ultrasound class. The work from UCSF is that we can bill for ED ULS and it does not affect radiology bills. They collect about $35 per study. They also say that the hospital can collect $100 per study for the machine. What are we doing?

NIght Hawk Disaster

THere is something funny with the night hawks. I was called at 11 pm on a case that was read at 2 am or so. I was a R/O PE scan that was read as no PE. I was called with a final reading of pulmonary nodule. I got a long story of prelim vs final reading and a strange rant about how films go to prelim readers when they are busy, then are read by final readers. I say what the heck, if you are looking for a tiny PE how can you miss a nodule?
I had to dictate a letter to Tansen and had the report faxed.
The night hawk system is a disaster.

Captain of the ship, not

I witnessed 2 episodes of surgical specialists refusing to admit or see pts regardless of the captain of the ship memo.
I propose that the general surgeon be required to come in within 1 hr to see trauma pts that require admission and have been refused by specialists. An orthopedist will not refuse an extremity injury if he knows that he will have to deal with the surgeon later. We need to get out of the fray and make fewer phone calls.

Pink Slips

I propose that the nurses use a pink slip on every pt at the time of rooming. They can check off each step required before we see the pt. We can sign the same pink slip when a pt is admitted or completed. Just like an airline pilot.

Democracy

Months ago there was a vote on the ED meeting time I propose we vote again now that attendance to the meeting is increased.

I request that we educate the staff that charts are not broken down until the chart complete box is checked?

I also propose that we hold the bonus for anyone with more than 15 charts.
